Do All Small Businesses Need Websites?

I won’t make you read this this whole post to get the answer. Yes! Every small business needs a website or at least some kind of social media presence, especially in these times of uncertainty. Everyday more and more of the population are using smart phones to find just about everything they need. Today, Google is what the yellow pages used to be. So if your business is not online, then you probably won’t be found. In this post I want to give you 2 options for creating a website that are totally free to use.

Google My Business

This is a free platform for local business owners that either have a brick and mortar location or deliver services to a certain city or group of cities. This will give free online visibility and the ability to get reviews from clients, customers or patients. Over the years this has been available, Google has really cracked down on spotting businesses that claim they are located in a certain area but are really not, resulting in suspension. Be honest when filling out your profile because if you are not they will most likely suspend your account. If you don’t have an actual business location, then don’t use your home address or a PO Box address because you will get a suspension. You can sign up for free at Google My Business.

This is my number recommendation for building a free or paid website. WordPress is the #1 CMS (content management system) in the world and has been for some time. As a web designer I enjoy the customizable features that it offers. It is an (open source platform) which means web developers from all over the world can create themes and plugins which is the main reason it’s so popular. My favorite part is it’s great for SEO (search engine optimization) which helps your business get found through the organic search results. You can build the best looking website ever, but if it gets no traffic, then it’s not really worth anything.
